Expenses of ColdSpring Mares Inc include but are not limited to :

• Roughly 240 tons of alfalfa hay per year.

• Roughly 1100 bags of grain per year.

• Farrier, dental and vet care.

• The lease on a facility to house 60+ mares at any given time.

• Staffing to oversee and care for the horses.

• Maintenance and equipment for upkeeping the facility.

Currently, we are limited to the number of mares we can accept into the program because of expenses. The current nurse mare lease fee is set to cover the majority of these expenses. With the help of public and donor support we aim to be able to lower this fee and make our mares more affordable for every family in need. This will in turn, increase the demand for our mares and allow us to take on even more retired broodmares! With our ability to help more people with retiring broodmares and orphaned foals we hope the traditional and cruel nurse mare industry will cease to exist.
